SJP movement nowadays

Lots of people have passed over the years, and recently, but the "legacy" of it is still in heart... people are either dead, doing time, or doing great. Bands like No More Saints, Stitches, Raw Helmet (17-18 year old kids) are trying to accomplish one thing by still playing- for fun and memories to look back to. It upsets a lot of people to see how "punk rock" is labeled now..... Sublime is considered a good PUNK band.... ? WTF!
Anyways, listen to these bands (or don't, suite yourself asshole).

U.T.I. 7"

Under the mutha fuckin' Influence. Here's the 7" that was put out on the waaay obscure Rasputin Records. As this blog continues, I'd love to have a more in depth history of this band. All I really have are my own experiences of playing parties in other bands with them, and of course getting fucked up with 'em throughout the years. The line up was by no means consistent, with Jimmy Rosenbaum being the crux of the  thing. The line up on this single were:

Jim: Vox
Nick: Drums
Tots: Bass
Mike: Guitar

I got lotsa vague memories after over 25 years. The Rosenbaum Ranch, Swallow's Day parties, Playing Bars in Rosarito in my band,  Bored To Death, "opening" for UTI...ha! "Opening"... a whole contingent of SJP's showing up in Mex, for the gigs. Good times!

Oh yeah... don't let me forget to mention the obvious - the name of this blog is a kick-ass UTI tune, and the picture for the blog is UTI as well. Duh!

If anyone wants to contribute stories, either post up in the comments or send 'em to me to put up as a regular entry. Love the fuckin' war stories man....send 'em to me:

ATG Lost In A Maze

So Here we have yet another gem. And again another 20 plus year old cassette recording ripped to MP3 formatting.

 Here's a brief description from  http://www.myspace.com/againstthegrainsjc :
Against The Grain was a Punk-Hardcore band that had started in the mid 80's from MV /San Juan Capistrano along with other locals such as U.T.I, Violation, Hangover, Bored to Death, F.R.I., Virulence, Symbolism Of Belligerency.
Originally a 3 Piece Band , They went on Tour and were the first out of the area to get some higher profile gigs. They scored a record deal & recorded, but the record company went Bankrupt before the album was ever released - The Test Pressing for this Album was Lost and never Found. They released their own cassette which was a live, raw sounding 2 track "LOST IN A MAZE" and were also on the O.C. compilation Album "O.C.'s Trail of Destruction" as well as other low budget DIY compilation cassettes.
Jim Alfaro- Guitar and Vocals
Mike Kortz- Bass and Vocals
Darren McDermott- Drums and Vocals

So. Back in the day, these dudes were a bit older than me and the bands i was in. Needles to say we all looked up to 'em big time. They really got the ball rollin'. Between Against the Grain & Hangover, the SJP scene was born. Legendary to all who are/were connected to this very DIY oldschool punk rock scene.

ARE YOU READY???

Violation "Six Songs To Die By" demo 1987
Vox- Brian
Bass- Tots
Guitar- Jesse
Drums - Fast Eddie

I've had this tape for over 20 years. It has definitely seen better days. The first song, "Padded Cell" is pretty much unlistenable ( anyone have a better copy? Send it our way!). The tape is so old school DIY, that track four, "No Control" starts on side A, and literally was just flipped over and resumed it's recording on side B. Classic! This demo includes a classic cover of the tune "Riot" by the Oppressed. Brings back some great memories. Good times!
